The horn led McWilliamson Quintet play from 1.30-3.30pm at The Lion at Basford. From 6pm Peggy’s have The New Bag performing bop from the 1950s and 60s; Hugh Pascall on trumpet, Matt Ratcliffe on grand piano, Martyn Spencer on double bass and Andrew Wood on drums, entry is £10/8.
Monday November 25
The Nottingham Jazz Workshop perform a concert at The Lion in Basford at 8pm – listen, enjoy, meet new friends and get involved if you fancy. The Alfa Big Swing Band are at the Village Inn, Marehay from 8.30pm for another big band blast.
Tuesday November 26
Nottingham Music Hub presents Jazz Squad, StrOrkestra and Band Factory artists at Peggy’s at 7.30pm, tickets available in advance or on the door are £5/4.
Wednesday November 27
Trumpeter Tony Pipkin brings his six piece Tailgate Ramblers to Risley Park Jazz Club, the music runs from 8-10.30pm and admission is £9. Hippo are sounding off at Peggy’s at 8pm; a trio with a future jazz vision buried in a nest of beefy electronics and bouncing rhythms – experience their phat sounds from saxophones, synthesisers and drums for just £6 from 7pm.
Thursday November 28
It’s the Nottingham Jazz Jam at Peggy’s with Woody and his house band leading the show – get in early if you want to take part, doors open at 7pm. Nottingham Rhythm Club at The Stadium Leisure Snooker Club, Nottingham Road, Basford have New Orleans music with drummer Baby Jools’ The Jazzaholics featuring Denny Illett on trumpet, Karl Hird on clarinet and tenor sax and Mike Owen on trombone on the front line with Brian Mellor on banjo and guitar and Jim Swinnerton on bass from 8-10.30pm, doors open at 7pm and entry is £9/8 for members or £6 NUS. The Unwin Club on Unwin Rd in Sutton-in-Ashfield present Martin Bennett’s Old Green River Band playing from 8.30pm, entry is £7/6 for members.
