Theatre: 1984 – Nottingham Playhouse – 12 – 28 September

We’re relaunching our Theatre coverage this month and we plan to bring you more reviews, previews and features than ever before, to kick things off we take a look at the latest show to hit the wonderful Playhouse – currently celebrating its 50th anniversary at its current location – 1984.

The play, as you have probably guessed, is the latest adaptation of the classic novel by author George Orwell, a novel that in an age of online snooping and CCTV seems ever more appropriate a read.

The tale that delves into the mind of Winston Smith as well as looking at the world in which he lives in which ‘Big Brother’ is watching every move.

1984 is one of the greatest novels of our time and many of you, like myself, probably enjoyed reading it at school, and have probably also enjoyed the big screen version starring John Hurt, now though you can enjoy this classic tale in the intimate surrounds of the Playhouse, experiencing it like never before.

A tale as relevant now as it has ever been – if not more so – 1984 promises to be a unmissable piece of theatre from Headlong, who the Telegraph described as “the country’s most exciting touring company’.

This latest telling is directed by Robert Icke and stars Mark Arrends and Tim Dutton.
