There was a very special 10th birthday bash at the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham on Saturday for the venue’s popular Beanbag Music Club. Featuring the vibrant sounds of the Latin acoustic trio Mas Y Mas, pre-school aged children and their families enjoyed a free slice of birthday cake alongside plenty of singing and dancing.
Beanbag Music Club events are unique. Set in the informal atmosphere of the Level 2 foyer of the Royal Concert Hall, children and their families pull up a beanbag and enjoy an interactive musical performance. The audience are encouraged to join in throughout by a friendly character named Beanie Bear. Beanie and the children learn about different musical styles and at the end of the performance get to have a go on the instruments and chat to the performers.
Neil Bennison, Music Programme Manager for the venue, said: “It’s amazing to think how many young people have experienced live music for the first time through the Beanbag Music Club. Many of them will now be in their teens and hopefully their enjoyment of music will have been encouraged by hearing these excellent performances, served with a big slice of fun. Over the last couple of years it’s also been hugely rewarding to have been able to run a development programme, with assistance from Arts Council England, which has enabled us to add four exciting new bands to our roster of Beanbag artists. It means we can now offer a really rich programme to young people and their families for many seasons to come.”
For families interested in attending live music performances in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, Beanbag Music Club events are the perfect introduction for children up to the age of six years old. The next Beanbag Music Club event will be Opera North’s Big Sing on Saturday 19 November. Singers from Opera North will show the amazing sounds they can make with their voices and the audience will join in with some big tunes from famous opera moments.
