If you’ve been to Nottingham’s Brewhouse Yard recently you may have noticed a rather thought provoking exhibition called WE SHARE THESE STREETS by Scott Taylor. The exhibition is an attempt to create a view of a timeless community. Quantum physicists say that all moments – past, present and future – could be happening simultaneously but we experience them in a linear fashion. The exhibition is Scott’s attempt to rip down the limits of our linear perspective and visualise how these simultaneous moments could look in terms of Nottingham’s streets. If Scott’s name sounds familiar then you might have read about him here on NottinghamLIVE as we recently carried a feature on Scott and his writing which includes the local interest books ‘Lost Nottingham’ and ‘Nottingham Victorian’
It is down to Scott’s passion for local history that the brilliant Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard is displaying his exhibition which includes five images currently, alongside authentic period artifacts that relate to each picture. There’s also a video on YouTube (http://youtu.be/NEQNxRIPbgM) which is more kinetic as it animates the blend of old and new in each image. It also features some lovely chilled music by local musician Josh Kemp.
We Share These Streets wouldn’t be possible without Picture The Past. It’s a brilliant website with thousands of old photographs of Nottingham. They supplied the old photographs for the exhibition whilst the contemporary ones are Scott’s own.
Scott has more plans for We Share These Streets, and Picture The Past are on-board again, so watch this space. He’d also love to hear from people with their own photographs of old Nottingham who’d like them to be featured.
